About Us
We're Kim and Tom, the co-founders of Teachers Turned Tutors, and between us we've spent over 30 years in math classrooms and tutoring sessions.
Kim holds a Bachelor's in Secondary Mathematics Education and a Master of Science for Teachers in Mathematics from the University of New Hampshire. Tom graduated from Colby College with dual degrees in Mathematics and Economics. Both of us are certified math teachers, and both of us built our careers in some of the country's top private schools, including Salisbury School in Connecticut, Pace Academy in Georgia, and Porter-Gaud School in South Carolina.
When the pandemic hit, we watched classrooms scramble to hold together online, and we saw firsthand how many kids fell through the cracks that opened up. We stepped away from traditional classrooms to focus on private tutoring, and what started as a way to keep students supported through a hard stretch turned into something we couldn't walk away from. We built Teachers Turned Tutors because we saw what good, individualized teaching could do for a student who thought they'd already fallen too far behind.
Math is where we started, and it's still where we specialize. We've spent our careers helping students see that math isn't something to fear, it's something to figure out, and we've built our approach around methods that actually stick instead of ones that just get a student through the next test. But our years at those schools also connected us with a network of exceptional teachers across every subject, which is why we've been able to build Teachers Turned Tutors into something bigger than the two of us. Every tutor on our team is someone we'd trust with our own kids.
We're looking forward to being part of your family's journey.
